Financial Beginnings
Receives $15,000 Grant from the
Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest

PORTLAND, Oregon, June 30 2011- Financial Beginnings, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides free financial education to children and young adults throughout the Pacific Northwest, recently received a grant for $15,500 from the Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP). The grant allowed Financial Beginnings to provide financial education programs to 650 students at six schools in the Portland Public School district this spring and will support Mayor Sam Adams' Summer Youth Connect Program.

The Association selected Financial Beginnings as a grant recipient due to their commitment to teaching students how to responsibly manage personal finances and their experiences in educating the functions of the banking, credit and insurance industries. Financial Beginnings was one of three local nonprofits to recieve a grant from the Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP).

"As a group comprised of credit industry professionals, Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP) recognizes the importance of providing early education on how to use credit responsibly," said Board Chairman Gina Whitlow. "Supporting educational programs for children and young adults is typically far more cost-effective than dealing with the resulting economic issues that a person or community may face as a result of bad credit and bankruptcy. Financial Beginnings' education model is effective, has a prolonged impact and we are proud to provide our support."

Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF)
Receives $9,500 Grant from the
Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest

The Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF) is hard at work, once again, bridging the gap between education and business through its support of programs at Reynolds High School and Center For Advanced Learning (CAL). Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF) has contributed greatly in the planning of Reynolds High School's Future Options Day, job placement training in the classroom, job interviewing practice with business professionals, and student interships in the work place. As you might guess, students gain valuable skills to prepare them for entering the workforce and complete hands-on work with mentors in businesses and organizations within our community.

In the past, Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF) has teamed up with Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP) to help prepare our young students for success in the workplace, On Wednesday, March 9, 2011, Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF), Reynolds High School and Center for Advanced Learning (CAL), were awarded a $19,500 grant from Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP). The funds that CAP is providing will be utilized specifically to support student's interning experiences in businesses related to finance and credit, i.e., banks, credit unions, financial institutions, accounting.

Thank you to CAP for your continued support of our students and the mission of Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF). This is an exciting time for Cascade Academy Foundation (CAF), Reynolds High School and Center for Advanced Learning (CAL), as we will be able to expand our program to touch more student's lives and better prepare our emerging workforce of the future.

June 29, 2011

Dear Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP),

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP) for your generous grant to support the Native American Youth and Family Center's (NAYA Family Center) Financial Wellness Programming. Our Financial Wellness program is dedicated to promote economic sovereignty within our urban Native American community. We use traditional savings principles and culturally specific education to ensure long-term prosperity and well-being.

With the $20,000 investment from Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP) we are able to enhance our services and make considerable support available to Native Americans and other low-income and traditionally underserved community members. The combination of financial literacy group education and one-on-one financial coaching supports participants along a continuum toward successfully reaching their individual financial goals. The funding from Credit Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAP) provides support for our Financial Skills Coach and to purchase necessary program supplies. At the completion of the funding year, at least 50 participants will graduate from the Financial Wellness classes. At the completion of the class, 86% of the graduates will have clear financial goals; 90% will have a clear understanding of credit scores after graduating; 100% will have created a spending plan. Additionally, at least 50 community members will participate in one-on-one financial coaching to support reaching their financial goals. Lastly, our Financial Skills Coach will become a Certified Personal Finance Counselor from the Center for Financial Certifications.

Thank you very much for your support, it is important to the success of our Financial Wellness Program.                                  Sincerely,

                                                                   Ben Helgren
